Have you ever wished you could make real-time updates to a client’s portfolio or existing model and immediately see the impact it will have on the overall stats and Risk Number®? Will making adjustments to the portfolio make a client more confident in their investments? Sandbox improves the decision-making process when putting proposals together. You are now given the ability to experiment with different investments and see the ultimate impact it will have on the portfolio as a whole. Taking action in Sandbox allows you to make the best, most informed decisions when recommending changes to your client's portfolio. You can now find out real-time using Portfolio Sandbox!
Within Portfolio Sandbox, you can make edits to an existing Portfolio or Model without overriding your existing one or leaving Stats. You can apply updates and real-time changes to the Stats page for all calculations including the adjusted Risk Number. Changes made can then be saved as a Client Proposal (from the Client Portfolio Stats page) or saved as a Model (from the Models’ Stats page).

Accessing Sandbox
To access the Sandbox once logged into Nitrogen, head over to Stats. To see the full KB on Working with Stats click here. Navigate to the right-hand Stats menu and select the Sandbox icon. A drawer will slide out populated with the account details of the current client portfolio (or model) that you are viewing.
Note: Any accounts that are muted will not be displayed in the Sandbox.
Editing Accounts
You can adjust the percentage of a holding to increase or decrease the weight in your portfolio or remove that investment altogether. You can also amend the overall dollar amount of each account in the portfolio.
Note: All holdings in an account other than the Cash/Money Market, SMA’s, and annuities are eligible to be deleted or changed.
When you’re ready to change the securities or add new ones, go ahead and use the search feature to pull up any securities or models. For an easier, more refined view while searching, you can filter down by Securities or Models. Models will include any saved models you have created previously and Securities will allow you to add any stocks, mutual funds, or ETFs as an investment to the account. When you review the changes to save as a proposal, you’ll be reminded of how many original accounts were amended in this session.
Adding New Accounts
To build a brand new account in Sandbox you'll want to select the “+ Add Account” button. All new accounts will default to 100% cash until you select which investments you wish to allocate funds into. Make sure to add a dollar value to the account as well, or adjust the number of unallocated funds that were applied here as needed. All accounts will be given a default name, and you can rename them to fit your client’s needs. You’ll be reminded upon saving the new Proposal or Model of how many new accounts you’ve added during your session.
Deleting Accounts & Discarding Changes
To delete an account, you’ll want to click on the three-dot action menu to the right-hand side of the account you wish to delete. Select "Delete Account", and this will move all of the holdings into cash and make those funds available to allocate into a new account. The total unallocated amount will then be displayed at the top of the Sandbox for you to view. This number will shift as you cash out of accounts by deleting and as you then allocate those available funds into new accounts and securities.
To discard changes and revert the account, simply select the three-dot action menu and click on "Discard Account Changes". This will revert the account you are selecting to the most recent version of Sandbox that has been applied as a modified draft. If you do wish to fully discard all portfolio or model changes back to the original state then go ahead and select "Discard Changes" at the bottom of Sandbox.
Applying Changes
As you make changes within your draft, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your changes to the entire Stats page. To do this, select "Apply Modifications as Draft", this will then transition Stats into a Modified mode. In Modified mode, all calculations on the screen will reflect the holdings of the amended allocations that changed in Sandbox. You can check out the new Risk Number® and analyze the updated statistics in Modeled Performance — focusing on what is most meaningful and important to your investor.
Note: Don’t worry, the original portfolio or model’s existing holdings will still be intact. You won’t override your existing portfolio or model with any changes applied while in Sandbox!
Saving as a Proposal or Model
Sandbox allows you to provide endless updates, and you can always discard changes and start over with new modifications or continue editing until you’ve found the most optimal portfolio for your client.
However, if you’re looking to create a new proposal or model and you are happy with the latest reflection in Stats on this portfolio, you'll want to select ‘Review and Save’. You'll see a summary here of accounts that were edited, added, and the overall portfolio shift in Risk Number. You can confirm the updates made and save it, then jump over to the Proposals screen if you choose. If you’re amending a model you’ll stay within the model’s screen during this workflow.
